2022 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Vintage Notes
We love the vintages that might appear to be a little more challenging than others. It allows us the opportunity to flex our skills a little. Good decisions in the cellar and the vineyard make for even better results in the bottle. 2022 was a vintage that had some of those challenges. It brought some hot days late in the season that kept us on our toes. These labor day heat spikes pushed us quickly into high gear right from the start of harvest as we set about carefully making our pick decisions and hitting our maximum pace in the cellar from day one. The winter rains we enjoyed earlier in the year seemed to help everything weather the high temperatures. The season brought more elevated tannin levels that bode well for aging.
Tasting Notes
Aromatics: Intoxicating bouquet of wild raspberry, black cherry, and ripe strawberry, layered with subtle hints of rose petal, forest floor, and exotic spices including star anise and clove. Qualities that echo the wine’s deep ruby hue with violet undertones.
Flavors: Juicy black cherry and nicely ripened blackberry take center stage with hints of deep cranberry and pomegranate which lead to a strong core. Undertones of tea leaf, crushed herbs and fresh forest floor are all balanced by bright acidity and a firm structure.
Mouthfeel: Rich, plush and vibrant, offering a silky texture that glides seamlessly across the tongue. The tannins are fine and supple, with a long, graceful finish that has both mineral and savory components.
